- Chris Beale played John Blackmore, score line: 0-3 loss, 6/15, 9/15, 11/15. A strong match with Chris improving his scores each game. Wasn’t to be sadly however on this occasion, great effort and stamina displayed though from start to finish
- Crispin played kevin Miller, scores: 0-3, 13/15, 5/15, 7/15. Crispin was the first to admit he was ‘out of sorts’ on this one, but nevertheless a gallant effort against quite a formidable opponent.
- James played Jago Jones Rogers, scores 0-3, 11/15, 13/15, 13/15. As can be seen from the scores, this was a very close and hard-fought game – unlucky on this one James, great effort as always.
- Gareth Jones played Lawrence Barry, scores: 1-3, 11/15, 15/9, 11/15, 11/15. A game where Gareth will be the first to admit he should have won, great effort though (even If I say so myself!).
- Stephen Davies played Dean Longden, and after Steve secured his first ever team win, Dean was Long done! Well done Steve. No easy opponent, where Dean could really whack the ball and with accuracy to boot. Scores 3-0, 15/10, 17/16, 15/12. A job very well done.
That’s it for the 2023 C team season. It has been a pressure, sorry, I meant a pleasure, running the C team for a number of years. Now looking forward to running a ‘new’ D team for Bridgend. First game scheduled for Tuesday 9th January 2024, home game. Thanks to all players and extended thanks also to all the great staff, led by Jana.
Finally, a word regarding one of our Junior team squash players recent progress within the realms of squash: Eliza (Hales) competed in the 2023 British Junior Championships, last seeded 5/8th she achieved:
5th place in the girls U13’s. In a tough draw she beat her Welsh Team mate 3-0 in the first round, moving on to the second round, Eliza also beat her English opponent 3-0.
Reaching the Quarter Finals, Eliza played an opponent who is currently ranked England’s No.1 in the Junior Tournament Rankings, unfortunately losing 3-0 in a close match.
Eliza then entered the playoffs, beating England’s No.9, 3-0, which gave her the opportunity to play for 5-6 th position against the English No.3, winning 3-1.
Overall a very successful period for Eliza, and with another full year left in U13’s, Eliza is looking forward to the next 12 months, with lots to work on, and looking forward to the challenge!
