Welcome to the Summer Tennis season. We now have our new indoor courts which came in very useful at the beginning of the season but now of course we have wall to wall sunshine. Long may it last! Some fantastic results from the teams so far.

This is the last round up for matches played up to mid-April due to postponements.

• ***Winners of the Chiltern Sports South Wales Veterans Winter League Men’s Doubles 2022/23***

Bridgend Men’s Vets 1 captained by Stephen Richards Congratulations such an awesome result! They have won this for three out of the last four years. Good luck for next year. What a team!

To have 7 out of the 16 teams representing Bridgend Tennis reaching the top of their divisions is such an awesome effort.

Well done thank you all! Let’s hope we can improve those numbers for the summer ;-)

• Congratulations to Mark Thomas for being awarded Wales Development Coach of the Year 2023 by Tennis Wales and also for Dr Ed Wilkins who was shortlisted for Tennis Wales Volunteer of the Year 2023!

Chosen to represent Wales in the Senior Four Nations Tournament are several members of Bridgend Tennis Club, Alison Wood, Steve Richards, Mike Harpin, Mark Masters with Nick Hegarty as first reserve. The tournament takes place in Glasgow from 29th April to 1st May 2023. We wish them every success - Go Wales!

• Bridgend Ladies 2 have one more match to play which will hopefully secure their promotion from Division 7 to Division 6 in the South Wales Winter League.
• Bridgend Mens Vets 1 have won the league. This will be 3 wins out of the last 4 years! What a team!

With just a few matches to play a few more teams are within a whisker of gaining the top position in their divisions. More to come next month. Congratulations all what a month for Bridgend Tennis!

What a month!

Ice and rain have meant more postponements but some matches have been played. 
Once again thank you to all team members who have travelled to their matches in the dodgy cold weather.  Well done all. 

• Three of our teams are at the top of their divisions, a few are very near to the top.  Special mention to the Vets 1 team, they are rocking their Division 1! 

Fingers crossed that we get to play loads of matches in February and win even more.

This has been a tricky couple of months for tennis - warm with lots of wind and rain in November. December with really low temperatures, a lot of matches postponed and courts unusable for days due to ice! We really need the indoor courts! Despite this our Bridgend teams are flying the flag high with four teams at the top of their divisions.

HAPPY NEW YEAR – 2023 is going to be a very busy one!

• This will be a very busy winter season for Bridgend. We have two extra ladies’ and men’s teams entered into the South Wales Winter League and the Chiltern Sports South Wales Veteran’s Winter League.

We’re off to a great start with a total of 19 wins from matches up to and including Sunday 16 th October.
Win, lose or draw team members should be congratulated on a fantastic effort representing our club.
